ROCK'N Missions
Throughout the month of May we will offer several opportunities for our ROCK families to give and grow together. Beginning the first Sunday of May the ZUMC family will embark on a five week study of poverty titled “Hope Lives”. The ROCK program will be incorporating this theme during Chapel and devotional times. Our hope is that our ROCK participants will learn more about compassion and methods of responding to the impoverished. Below is a list of the various opportunities. Please share these with your child and then as a family decide how you would like to participate!
· May 4 – 15 - Fight World Hunger = “Fill up Phillip”
Once again our ROCK families have the opportunity to partner with the youth of ZUMC in raising money and awareness to the issue of world hunger. ZUMC Youth will be participating in the 30 Hour Famine May 2 & 3. 26,000 children die every day due to preventable causes like hunger, poverty, and disease – mostly from contaminated water. One dollar will feed a child for an entire day. Thirty dollars will feed and care for a child for an entire month!
The ROCK children will decorate and take home a “Compassion Stick”. They are challenged to tape change to their sticks and bring them into ROCK and help “Fill up Phillip”. The children will watch as Phillip’s tummy gets full! They are welcome to bring the “Compassion Sticks” back as many times as they would like. You may also write a check to World Vision and put it inside Phillip. All donations are tax-deductible. Please ask if you would like a receipt!
· May 18 – 22 – “Compassion Cards”
This week “Compassion Cards” will be used during our Joys and Concerns time. Each day the ROCK children will learn about a child living in South America, the child’s family, lifestyle, and living conditions. Please have your child share with you what they learn each day.
· May 18 – 29 – “Canned Food Drive”
We are sponsoring a canned food drive to help stock shelves at the Caring Center located in Lebanon, Indiana. In the past the Caring Center has been able to provide food for over 11,000 individuals in the Boone County area. For more information you can go to www.thecaringcenter.net . They welcome any food items but the following are the high priority items:
evaporated milk, cake and brownie mixes, canned meat, pudding, baby food, toilet paper, shampoo and conditioner.
· May 28 – “Snack Sacrifice”
Each day at ROCK the children have the choice of two snacks ~ they can take one or both. On this day the children will take two snacks but they will have to sacrifice one of them. The sacrificed snacks will be donated to Roberts Park Soup Kitchen to be given to the hungry.
Thanks for your support in helping us complete our mission and care for God’s children all over the world. If you have any questions regarding any of these opportunities please contact us.
Blessings
